Alison has over 20 years experience in teaching piano, recorder, and singing/musical theatre. During this time she has taught pupils from age 5 through to 85! Pupils learn for fun or for grades with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or London College of Music depending on their requirements. She has had success with pupils through to grade 8 and into diploma levels, as well as several students gaining music scholarships into independent schools.
Using a variety of methods tailored to the student, Alison uses her academic research to teach good piano technique using the natural shape of the hand in relation to the notes on the score. By "chunking" together piano technique and associated note-reading skills, she aims to improve a students sight-reading and general musical playing.
Working on vocal technique, breathing and expression. Alison teaches a variety of students of all ages and with varying interests. Grades can be taken in classical singing, musical theatre or pop vocals if required. Also, preparation for college/university auditions or for performance at a wedding for example.
Alison also teaches theory of music, and has assisted with pupils studying for GCSE and A level music.
Lessons are generally given at her home in central Beccles.
